2.2 Database requirements

SQL Server 2005

Express vs. SQL Server

2005

The TIS-Office database can be connected using either Microsoft SQL Server

2005 Express or SQL Server 2005 (database server version).

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2005 must be available to

install TIS-Office:

• The TIS-Office server component creates the relevant database, which the

• client component uses during installation.

If you install the stand-alone version, both components are available on the

same computer.

SQL Server 2005

Express

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express is the successor to MSDE 2000 and is

based on SQL Server technology. It is fully compatible with SQL Server and

has been designed for applications that require a local database module.

Limitations compared with SQL Server are:

• database management functions (no tool support, e.g. Enterprise

Manager),

• database size (maximum 4 GB per database) and

• the number of clients that can access the database simultaneously.

Thus, SQL Server 2005 is particularly suitable for TIS-Office stand-alone

installations and for small Client/Server networks with a manageable amount

of data and number of clients accessing the database at the same time.

Important

In order to install SQL Server 2005 Express or SQL Server 2005, NET

Framework 2.0 must be installed on the computer. If you want to install SQL

Server 2005 Express separately, (without TIS-Office) please refer to Chapter

3.4 "Installing SQL Server 2005 Express separately or an instance" from

page 3-22.
